TY24. Calif Form 3805E line 24 bug.

Line 24 (investment sale income) should be line 22 times line 19, but TT does NOT do the calculation. The same calc IS done on Fed Form 6252 (also line 24). Most data from 6252 is correctly carried over to Form 3805E. I did a line 24 Override on 3805E to fix the error so the bug will not prevent me from filing. However, this bug did not exist before. I'm several years into an Installment Sale and it's always worked correctly since the sale in 2020.

I have not encountered or been informed of any issues with California Form 3805E.

In order for us to troubleshoot this issue, you can send us a “diagnostic” file that has your “numbers” but not your personal information. If you would like to do this, here are the instructions for TurboTax Desktop users:

From the black bar at the top of your screen, select Online
Click Send Tax File to Agent
Click Send on the message that pops up
TurboTax will create a "sanitized" copy of your return information with no personal info
Post the 7-digit token number here in this thread

Please also advise whether this issue was with a PC or a Mac version.

I am experiencing the same issue as the Original poster, except mine has been correctly handled since the 2019 year of sale.

My computer is a MacBook Pro (Apple silicon) running 15.1.1 (24B91).

In a test return, info entered into Federal return, reported on Form 6252, was carried over to California Form 3805E. The totals on Federal 6252 matched CA Form 3805E.

However, CA Form 3805E returns errors for having lines 5, 8, and 9 filled out and says they should not be (only for year of sale). When going through the Review, these errors came up, but I was able to Continue past them.

As long as the correct income for 2024 is reported (Line 24 on both forms), it should not be an Efile problem, but I will report this issue and post again with any new info.

If you want to send us a diagnostic file, follow these instructions:

TurboTax Online:

Sign into your online account.
Locate the Tax Tools on the left-hand side of the screen.
A drop-down will appear. Select Tools
On the pop-up screen, click on “Share my file with agent.”
This will generate a message that a diagnostic file gets sanitized and transmitted to us.
Please provide the Token Number that was generated in the response.

TurboTax Desktop/Download Versions:

Open your return.
Click the Online tab in the black bar across the top of TurboTax and select “Send Tax File to Agent” *
This will generate a message that a diagnostic copy will be created. Click on OK and the tax file will be sanitized and transmitted to us.
Please provide the Token Number that was generated in the response.

*(If using a MAC, go to the menu at the top of the screen, select Help, then, Send Tax File to Agent”)

I'm having the same issue as described. It all flows through properly from the 6252 to the 3805E but does not calculate the Installment Sale Income (Line 24). Line 24 is blank and should not be. Therefore the Schedule CA subtracts out the reportable gain improperly. This is definitely a bug in the California program. I'm using a Mac.

Turbo Tax's response to my original post 3 weeks ago was to file a "diagnostic" file. I chose not to do that, hoping that TT would fix the bug. They didn't, as of today. I'm relieved that other users have experienced the same 3805E bug on line 24 so I know that the problem was not something I did. Solution: I used "override" on line 24 to insert the correct value. That seems to solve the problem. Thanks. SB

TT California update came out today fixing the problem.
