topic 1040 X FORM in After you file

I USE TURBO TAX ONLINE TO FILE TAXES. I AM TRYING TO AMEND A 2021 TAX RETURN. I AM ABLE TO GET THROUGH ALL OF THE STEPS, BUT THE A REGULAR (NEW) 1040 PRINTS OUT - NOT A 1040X. HOW DO I GET TURBO TAX TO USE THE 1040X FORM?

You do not file the Form 1040 with the amended tax return, Form 1040-X. Only the amended tax return is mailed to the IRS and any other forms or schedules changed by amending the return, but NOT the Form 1040.

Did you actually go through the section to amend the federal tax return?

Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home & Business)

Click on Other Tax Situations

Under Other Tax Forms

On Amend a return, click on the start button

Use LIST OF FORMS to find the 1040-X and print it.

see IRS Instructions for Form 1040-X for how to assemble a paper amended return.
