Can anyone tell me if they have been through the process of Letter 4483-C for taxes 2017? I waited 5 weeks for my return, even had a direct deposit day from Turbo Tax, although IRS was "Still Processing", proved my identity yesterday 3/1/18. IRS said up to 9 weeks to get refund. Although it has already been 5 weeks, so go figure 5 weeks and 9 weeks to get DD to bank, this is a total of 3 months. This isn't right. Anybody been through this for tax season 2017, and if so, has anyone got a direct deposit yet? How long did it take after proofing identity, to get refund as direct deposit?

Normally, it can take up to nine (9) weeks to process and receive your refund after verifying your identity. Please keep in mind this is not a set guaranteed timeline that the IRS has set. Each individual taxpayer's return is different.

For taxpayers who receive the 4883C - the IRS states:

"We received your federal income tax return, but we need more information to verify your identity in order to process your tax return accurately".

What you need to do

Call the toll-free IRS Identity Verification telephone number at 800-830-5084.
When you call, you must have:
- This letter
- A prior year tax return
- The tax return for the year the notice is for
- Any supporting documents for each year’s return, such as Forms W-2 or 1099, Schedules C or F, etc.

The toll-free IRS Identity Verification telephone number is available for you to call even if you haven't filed a tax return for this year. However, we can’t discuss any other tax-related information during the call.
