Filed federal and MD state taxes thru Turbotax on 4/14/2024, yet still not processed. Federal payment cleared my bank on 4/16. Why is there such a delay?

Turbotax is saying I still need to pay the federal tax even though it was paid thru Turbotax and already cleared my bank. MD state refund status says it's still being processed. It has never taken this long in the past. Since both are delayed, I believe there could be a problem with Turbotax, but I can't get an answer. They are closed now, but I can't get a phone number to call them on Monday.

Not sure why you are saying your federal return is delayed. You filed the return and paid your tax due--according to you. Your TurboTax account is never going to update and show that you paid the tax due. Your online account will always show the result of the return you prepared using the software. Your proof that you paid will be your own bank or credit card statement.

The software you use has no effect on your tax refund. The IRS uses old outdated computer systems which can’t handle the volume of returns it receives. This slows the system severely. There are tons of folks who filed in February and March that are still waiting for refunds. Set

up an account on irs.gov if you haven’t already to access your tax account transcript . It provides more information but you won’t be able to see it until they process it.
