Got an audit notice by TurboDefense and then Tax rexturn got accepted the next day. What does that mean?

I got an email notification from TurbooDefense about my state tax being audited.

The next day, I also received a notification from TurboTax that my state return got accepted.

Does that mean the audit was completed? Or the audit is still ongoing, but the state just accepted my return first while auditing my return as long as it takes???

No, TurboTax Audit Defense doesn't notify people about audits. If this is the first you have heard about a state audit, this is probably a phishing attempt.

If you really are being audited by your state and you purchased Audit Defense for the return, follow this link to get help with that.

I don't understand why the secure site would be leaked, if there is indeed phishing going on. Anyway, the email "seems" legit with my account number and order number. BTW, , I did try forward the email to [email address removed] but got an error saying the email address was not right, so got rejected.

The following is the copy from the "phishing" like email:

Thank you for providing a copy of the email.

This email doesn't say you are being audited. It says you purchased Audit Defense and gives you instructions in the event you get a letter, or an audit notice.

Save a copy of this notice for your future reference.

Ahh... that's right! I got panic first when I saw the title of the email already; my entire mind just assumed i got audited without reading the email carefully.

I got this same email today, after transmitting our taxes just yesterday. The big clue to me is: WE DIDN’T PURCHASE AUDIT DEFENSE. I knew immediately that it’s a scam. And there were no logos in the email either. The email says not to call the IRS if we get an audit notice, but to call a phone number in the email. So I’m guessing that chapter 2 of the scam is, they will send me a fake IRS audit notice. I also could not forward the email to the Intuit spoof address. Heads up everyone - it’s a continuous attack, and they are relentless!

And is TurboTax really safe??
