The Form 4868, Application for Automatic Extension of Time To File U.S. Individual Income Tax Return will not be available for e-filing using TurboTax until mid-March.

If you want to file the form 4868 now it can only be printed and mailed to the IRS.

An extension gives you until October 15, 2024 to file your taxes instead of the tax deadline of April 15, 2024. You must file an extension by April 15, 2024 to get extra time to file your taxes without a penalty. There's no further extension past October 15, 2024.

An extension does not give you extra time to pay your taxes, which are due on April 15, 2024. Even if you can't pay your taxes by the deadline, file an extension anyway so you can avoid the late-filing penalty.

@bamangan The last post of this thread was from two years ago in April of the year when e-filing an extension request for tax year 2023 was available.

For tax year 2025 you need to wait until mid-March of 2026 before e-filing of a 2025 extension request will be available in TurboTax.

Or go to this IRS website for the Form 4868 to complete and mail the form to the IRS - https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f4868.pdf
