If you received a LT38 notice, it's letting you know that during the pandemic some collection notices were suspended. However, they're resuming normal operations and providing you with an update on your outstanding balance to help you stay informed and offer you self-service options to resolve your account.

This doesn't answer the question. Scenario: 2021 taxes prepared by a tax consultant. We receive a refund. We are even with the Government. Now, I receive a LT38 document that says I owe money plus a penalty. Why?? Pandemic or no pandemic, we didn't owe money. And if we did, why did we not receive a notice informing us that our taxes were figured incorrectly and how they were figured incorrectly?? Instead we get a bill with a huge penalty for not paying?? This does not make sense. There is no explanation. I've called the IRS for days and will be on hold for 2 hour increments before they hang up on me. I have been on hold for over 8 hours total. I even called them at 8am when they opened. I was on hold until 10am. I called back and was on hold until noon. How do I rectify this scenario?

These are questions to ask the IRS. TurboTax has no idea what the issue is.

I suggest you contact the IRS. I've found the local offices to be more responsive.

You can call the IRS toll-free at 800-829-1040 or contact a Taxpayer Assistance Center Local IRS Office.

You may also want to contact the tax consultant that prepared your taxes.

The exact same thing has happened to me, I have not been able to get any help from IRS or any answers simply you owe now pay, there is thousands of dollars in fines. This really seems like a violation of tax laws! How Does one fix this??? Can anyone answer Irs or turbotax employee that did my taxes with?!
