Yes, it is possible to e-file an amended 2023 tax return. However, make sure that the original return has been fully processed by the IRS prior to submitting an amended return. This helps to avoid confusion. Here is how.

If you used TurboTax Online, simply log in to your account and select “Amend a return that was filed and accepted.” If you used our CD/download product, sign back into your return and select “Amend a filed return.”

I should clarify that I am amending a 2022 tax return. It was originally e-filed through the desktop application and the amendment is being prepared in the same desktop application.

Below is a screenshot of the message that I am receiving from TurboTax... a bit disappointing.

You can not e-file a prior year amended return through the Desktop Program, it must be paper filed.
