It is a mortgage interest statement.

Okay, you are probably taking the standard deduction, so the 1098 is not needed. Mortgage interest is an itemized deduction and if the standard deduction is higher, you don't want to itemize. If you want to read more, see Why did my 1098 not affect my refund?
