when you begin the amendment, the first column MUST tie to how the IRS settled your tax return, which in your case is a little different than how you originally submitted it.

the title of Column A is "Original amount reported or as previously adjusted"

I didn't include an estimated tax payment I had made during the year when I originally filed the return. I was due a refund and the IRS then increased the amount of my refund to account for the tax payment I forgot to include.

If Line 13 Col A is "as adjusted" it should equal Line 13 Col C and Col B would be zero.

I don't know whether this would cause TurboTax to change Line 18. I doubt it.

cc: @NCperson

@xmitchj

If I do that though it will increase the amount of the refund I'm getting on my amendment by the amount of the tax payment. I've already received that estimated payment back from the IRS so just updating my estimated tax payment will over inflate the amount of my new refund. I'm new to this but I feel like I need to update the estimated payment to reflect what I actually paid but then also make an update else where to offset that since I've already received that money back from the IRS. Hope all that makes sense.

I really appreciate all the help with this!

The thing to do, probably, is

undo the amendment changes

cancel the amendment.

revise the original return to fix the "Estimated tax" as adjusted. that's done with the "Add a State" trick.

restart your amendment.

@xmitchj

Fanfare is right. Except first undo/delete/cancel the amended return. Then undo any changes to our your return back to the original. Then add the estimated payment the IRS added. Then amend.
