I filed my tax return in January and have not received my refund. I have probably one of the easiest returns the IRS has to deal with. I am a student with no job. It's as simple as it gets. I should be getting my student refund and don't know what could be taking so long. I have tried everything to get some answers and it seems impossible.

What are you getting a refund from? If you have no income you probably didn't need to file a return. Did you have any tax withholding taken out of any W2 or 1099 form?

Did you efile? Was it Accepted?

Did you go all the way through the File tab, through the 3 steps and hit the big orange Transmit Returns Now button?

If you used the Online version you can check your efile status here

When you efile you get back 2 emails. The first email only confirms the transmission. The second email says if the IRS (or state) Accepted or Rejected your efile. And check your spam folder for them.

When you log into your account you should also see the status and if it was Accepted or Rejected, Started, Printed, Ready to Mail, etc. What does it say?

Then what does the IRS say? If your return was Accepted or mailed then check IRS Where's my refund

You say you had no job. What "student refund" are you asking about? Are you perhaps confused about the American Opportunity Credit? If you could be claimed as someone else's dependent (parents?) then they are the ones who get to claim the education credit. Please clarify what you are asking about. And....did you see an amount on line 35a of your Form 1040?

There is no such thing as a "student refund." You may have heard that a student gets a $1,000 refund just for filing a tax return. It's an old myth that's been circulating for years. But it's a myth.
