topic If turbo tax never updated my return to status of mailed, what do I do? I owed IRS $96, they received the check and took the money out but never released my tax return in After you file

I filed with turbo tax, they never updated the status to filed, the left it as ready to mail, I have proof of the certified mail date that I sent my paper taxes to the IRS. The IRS received the check portion of what I owed and took the money out but never released my return which was a lot more than what I owed so I should still receive the amount provided. Why am I still at a “ready to file” when I’ve filed thru the mail. I can’t find a phone number to help me with the IRS

TurboTax has no way to know when or even if the tax return was mailed by you to the IRS.

The status of the return will remain as Ready to Mail on the Tax Home webpage. That status indicator is from TurboTax not from the IRS.

Additionally, if you have federal taxes owed you are not receiving a federal tax refund.

Look at your federal tax return, Form 1040 Line 37 for the amount owed. There will not be an amount on Line 35a for a refund.

".....took the money out but never released my return which was a lot more than what I owed ...."

Sorry, but that makes no sense. You cannot owe tax due to the IRS and get a refund for the same federal tax return. If you are getting a refund it is shown on line 35a of your Form 1040. If you owe tax due it will be on line 37 of that Form 1040. There cannot be amounts on both lines. So....which line had an amount?

https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/1901539-how-do-i-preview-my-turbotax-online-return-before-filing

Click on Tax Tools on the left side of the screen. Click on Tools. Click on View Tax Summary. Click on Preview my 1040 on the left side of the screen.

And....you cannot pay state tax due from a federal refund, nor can you pay federal tax due from a state refund. Those are completely separate from each other.

The other point....your TurboTax account will always show your return as "Ready to Mail" if you chose to file by mail instead of by e-filing. TurboTax does not mail the tax return to the IRS for you, and has no way to know if you printed the return, put it in an envelope and took it to a mailbox. Only you would know if you mailed your tax return. Your only proof that you paid your tax due will be your own bank or credit card records; TurboTax never knows if you paid, or if you received a refund.

....OR...maybe you were expecting a "State" tax refund??

IF so, did you mail those State forms to the State involved?

If you included your state forms along with what you sent to the "IRS" (the Feds).....they DO NOT forward the state forms to your state.

......so if you were supposed to get a refund from your state, you have to mail those state tax forms separately to whatever state Tax Department is involved.
