Original File lost after filing, need to file amended return.

I e-filed and paid fed and state but my computer died and the original file and installation of turbo tax 2022 was lost. I reinstalled on another computer and re-entered the data to recreate the file that I already used to file my taxes. Now I need to file an amended fed return, but the file an amended return option is not there. In turbo tax the Check E-File Status shows I have already filed, which is correct. Should I just repeat the E-file process for Fed?

You may have to fool the program that the tax return has been already been filed. In the File section of the program select the option to File by Mail. Go through all the interview screens to complete this section. The software should now recognize that the tax return has been filed so that you can amend the tax return.

To amend a tax return that has been filed when using the TurboTax desktop editions -

Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home & Business)

Click on Other Tax Situations

Scroll down to Other Tax Forms

On Amend a Return, click on the start button

You are using desktop software? Where did you look for preparing an amended return? You need to go to Other Tax Situations, then scroll down on that page to Amend a Tax Return.

I clicked on the search and the results for Amend a return had a link that initiated the amendment. The file saved so it is saying I need to print and mail the amended return. Thank you for the help anyways. They can choke on the 40 pages I'll send them.
