@bbuckee6688 You stated "I filed with TurboTax on 4/24/2023 for 2021."

If you used the TurboTax online editions and e-filed your tax return and it was accepted by the IRS, then you have a problem. The TurboTax online editions are only for tax year 2022.

The IRS will be sending you a letter in the mail questioning the tax return you sent since it does not match up with any 2022 tax data they received for your Social Security number.

After completing the File section and e-filing your tax return you will receive two emails from TurboTax. The first email when your tax return was transmitted and the second email when the tax return has either been accepted or rejected.

So, did you receive any emails from TurboTax concerning the e-filed tax return?

If you did NOT use the TurboTax online editions then how did you file the 2021 tax return?

To complete and file a 2021 tax return using TurboTax you would need to purchase, download and install on a personal computer one of the 2021 desktop editions from this website - https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/past-years-products/

A 2021 tax return can only be printed and mailed, it cannot be e-filed using TurboTax.

Ok ... since you could not efile the 2021 return in April of 2023 did you print, ink sign and mail it in ? If so it can take several months to process. Until the IRS opens the envelope and the data input operator puts it in the system it will not show up on the IRS look up tool.

TurboTax gives you an estimated date for receiving your refund based on a 21 day average from your date of acceptance, but it can take longer. “21 days” is not a promise from TurboTax or the IRS.

First, check your e-file status to see if your return was accepted:

https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tools/efile-status-lookup/

Once your federal return has been accepted by the IRS, only the IRS has any control. TurboTax does not receive any updates from the IRS. Your ONLY source of information about your refund now is the IRS.

You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount (line 35a of your 2022 Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:

https://www.irs.gov/refunds

To track your state refund:

https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/1899433-how-do-i-track-my-state-refund

https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/1901548-why-do-some-refunds-take-longer-than-others

If you chose to have your TurboTax fees deducted from your federal refund, that will take some extra time, while the third party bank handles the refund processing.

https://www.irs.gov/refunds/tax-season-refund-frequently-asked-questions

https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/2840013-does-accepted-mean-my-refund-is-approved

https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/2724106-my-return-is-accepted-but-still-not-approved-is-there-a-problem-should-i-be-worried

OR——if you filed by mail, expect a long wait. It is taking the very backlogged IRS six to nine months to process mailed returns. Until a human opens your envelope and enters the data into the system, nothing will even show up on the refund site, so you will have to be very patient.

You will not receive a return. Your tax return is the form you send to the IRS that shows your income and calculates your tax. The money that the IRS sends back to you is your refund. The IRS receives your return after you mail it. Several months after you mailed your signed paper return to the IRS, you will receive your refund.

If you have not mailed your 2021 tax return yet, when you mail it send it by certified mail with a return receipt. That way you will get tracking and confirmation that it was delivered to the IRS.
