Amending a previous tax return

If i make an amendment for a previous tax year that originally said i owned in taxes, but now it says i am to get a refund, will i recieve the refund PLUS the payment i had overpaid to the IRS? This happened as a result of me forgetting to add my traditional IRA contribution to my original tax filing.

So let's say for example, my orginal tax filing said i owed $500, and i paid that amount. But after amending it, it now says I am to recieve a $500 refund. Will i recive the $500 refund along with an additional $500 that i overpaid?
