My mother passed away Nov 2022. Her only income was social security roughly $15000. She and her deceased husband had not filed in years. She did however sell her home in Aug of 2022 and made about $24000 (it had been on a reverse mortgage for years but we were lucky enough to at least get that). Of that $24000 about $10000 went to paying her nursing home care. There was not any other income etc. Do I need to file taxes for her?

No, if her only income was $15,000 of Social Security, and the home that was sold had been her primary residence for two of the past five years, then a return is not required to be filed for her.

Our condolences for your loss.
