Hello all,

So, my wife and I mailed our return for 2021 in via paper filing, and of all the mistakes we could make we chose to forget to sign the freaking thing. We just got it back with the official “request for signature” form.

My question is this: Am I locked in to paper filing now? I would assume it hasn’t been processed yet since the signature is on the first dang page, but can’t no for sure. Now that e-filing is back open, can I go that route for the 2021 filing year without mucking up the process?

thanks for the help!

I would not reccomend e-filing the same tax return. Attempting to e-file your return, after mailing them, may result in the IRS rejecting the e-filed return due to someone already filing using that name, social security number and birthdate.

It will slow down the process if you are to receive a refund because a person will need to investigate why two returns were received.
