Hi everyone, I used turbo tax software (downloaded, Mac) to attach a required form which was prompted by the software to my State return. It gave me a prompt that the attachment was "accepted" by the software. When I filed it electronically, the PDF proof did not show me the attachment. I am hoping it was sent to IRS, but it is odd that my PDF proof didn't show the attachment. Is this typical?

Can you tell us what you mean by "PDF proof?" Do you see the PDF attachment when you download and/or print your return? Also, can you confirm that you followed the steps listed here: How do I eFile my New York return if I have credits requiring a PDF attachment?

Yes, so I followed all the steps. My state is Maryland. My Mac Turbotax application gives me a prompt after I attached the PDF attachment "We've attached the PDF(s) to your return. You're all set."

However, when I print my return (under 2022 Returns), I don't see the PDF attachment as part of the overall return. That's what I meant by proof. I already filed electronically. I just wasn't sure if the PDF attachment was submitted and I just don't see it in the print out of my return?

Your pdf that you attached will not be printed as part of the pdf of the tax return that you submitted. You should have the pdf of the attachment as a record of that and not need what amounts to a duplicate pdf.

I have the same issue, but this still doesn't answer my question. I printed my 8453 form that was generated by TT (2022 Turbotax Business), printed it, signed it, scanned it to (temporary) PDF file, and then attached it to my transmission. Since I assumed TT would have saved the signed and scanned PDF as a record, I deleted the temporary scanned file. Now the IRS is claiming that I didn't sign my return, though the TT printed cover sheet says "You have signed Form 8453-PE and it was attached to the electronic file. No other signature document is needed." in my saved tax printout. The 8453-PE form in the printout is the unsigned form. I have a feeling the IRS isn't going to take the TT statement as proof of a Signed form. Hopefully I'm wrong.

So the question still is: Is there someway to retrieve a copy of the signed 8453 form from Turbotax, or from the windows file system that TT may have stored it.

No, if the 8453-PE that was attached to the return as a PDF was blank, there's no signed copy to retrieve.

You should just follow whatever procedure the IRS is asking you to follow to sign your return, so it can be processed. If they charge you with a penalty, you can ask for it to be waived based on what you have said here.

If you want to speak with someone about this, you can contact the Audit Support center since the IRS has contacted you about the return you filed through TurboTax. Follow this link for contact info.
