My taxes being withheld are 1981$… that’s after they discounted the 187$ that I owe.. I gave them permission to take the 187$ owed out my bank in April.. and the amount being withheld is way more than what I owe… so what’s going on??
i always do my taxes and I only made approximately 33,000 in 2022.. I know there’s people who make way more and still get a refund so it can’t be what u said I’m sorry

If, on the bottom line you owe, then you are not getting a refund. You have to pay the IRS. Your withholding was insufficient to pay your tax due.

Every year is different from every other. Withholding tables change. If all you have is one W-2, then there is no mystery. Read your actual return line by line, to see why this is happening

I filed 3 W-2’s from 3 different jobs .. my actual return I assume was 2,168$.. than they subtracted what I owed (187$) and that left me with 1981$.. but it’s saying that tax from my W-2’s are being withheld..and idky.. I’m thinking because they want me to pay what I owe first? They already subtracted it from the check .. I’m thinking since I gave them permission to take the money I owe from my bank in APRIL they are withholding my return until it’s payed off? That’s all I can assume .

Okay, at this point, it sounds like you are getting a refund. You have taxable income, that amount is taxed, your withholding pays the tax, and if there is anything left over, it is your refund. If there is any amount on Line 34, that is your refund.

34 If line 33 is more than line 24, subtract line 24 from line 33. This is the amount you overpaid .

Still not really clear, I'm not sure where

...yes...look at your actual form 1040

Based on what you've said...perhaps.

...was your calculated Federal tax actually $2168 ?? (line 24)

...you prepaid $1981, thru withholding

....leaving with you owing $187 more.

____________________________________

(edited) Line 24 of your Form<STRIKE> 24</STRIKE> 1040 is you tax assessment before applying withholding (plus other possible credits down to line 33).

Unfortunately, you owe. Your regular tax is $2,228 and you have an additional $60 on Line 20, carried over from Schedule 3. If one of these is a part-time job, most of the time there is too little earned on a weekly basis for the tables to have you withhold an adequate amount.

Sorry, your tax form 1040 is clear.

You owed $187 more to the IRS..

.....withholding doesn't always cover it all, and smaller jobs especially, may have withheld less than needed because their withholding did not take into account your other income.

I was only at the part time for 3 months and the I started my other main job because I left the previous one before that.. I don’t understand how I owe anything when I. Always file my taxes.. and I would assume working more and paying more would let me get more back.. again I know servers who earn way more $ thank me and get a lot back.. this makes no sense to me.. who can I contact to fix this??
