How to get an IRS pin for a minor?

I tried to get a pin for my son through the get a pin link on irs.gov. But it says he’s underage. How do I get a pin for a minor?

If your dependent is under 16 years old and this is their first time filing a tax return, they cannot e-file their return. He return would have to be mailed in.

thanks for responding. This is not their first time filing tax return. We were victims of identity theft and need to file using a pin. I was able to get one but not sure how to get one for my sons that are under 16.

I believe you go through the same steps to get an IP Pin for your minor.

you can't get the IP PIN for a dependent from the portal.

that would defeat the whole purpose of the IP PIN.

instead submit request for the PIN and IRS will mail it to you again.
