topic I filed my taxes last week, and in the process I ended up putting my name as the lender when it came to my student tax credit section. Do I have to amend? in After you file

All of the information from my 1098T was correct in terms of the numbers, I just was confused on who the lender was. Will the IRS correct upon processing my return or should I?

If IRS sees a discrepancy, they will figure it out.

Don't worry about it.

@theoutlaw15

No. Most likely you do not have to amend.

If you entered the correct EIN number for the lender, IRS will catch it. They use the EIN number to identify the lender. However, there is a chance they question it. If they do, they will contact you with instructions on whether to amend or just send a copy of the form 1098.

In any case, if you have to amend. IRS is not accepting amended returns until February. Also, Turbo allows you to amend for free. If you prepared your original tax return using TurboTax, log in to your account, open the tax return you already filed, and click on the link to amend your return. From there, the software will walk you through the process of filing the amendment.
