Does anybody know if I have to do my 2022 tax return first when transferring my 2021 tax return to the turbo tax download before I can amend my 2021 tax return on there

Every time I try to transfer my 2021 tax return from online to the download version it try’s to have me to my 2022 tax return right away and won’t just let me amend my 2021 tax return. (I am having to amend it on the download since I’m needing to fill out a form that I can’t fill out on the online version)

A couple of points :

1) amend the 2021 return first ... download the 2021 program & .taxfile from the online system then transfer the amended .taxfile into the 2022 program.

2) you will need the AGI from the original return to efile the 2022 return so be aware that you need that figure not the amended AGI ... from the online system save a PDF of the original return so you have that info

Ohhhhhh...wait

....IF you are not getting to see your 2021 tax return in the "Online" software.....so that you can download the 2021 tax file???

Then Yes...you need to go thru ~ 12 pages of 2022 startup questions...before the "Tax Home" will show on the left ...hit that, and then scroll down to see the prior year forms.

I can see my 2021 tax return online and it’s letting me transfer it to the download version. It just won’t let me amend it and try’s to have me do my 2022 tax return

BUT, did you download and install/start up the 2021 software?

IF the desktop software is having you start a 2022 file, then you have the 2022 software started....not the 2021 amendment software.

If you filed and paid for 2021 tax Online software last year, the Amend selection in the 2021 area should allow you to download the 2021 desktop amend software for free.
