So I need to amend my 2021 return, but I don’t know if I should use the address I lived at during 2021 or if I should use my current address. I have a preferred address but if I change my address will I mess up my returns or will it make a difference with the IRS?

On the amended tax return use the address where you currently receive your mail. It does not make a difference to the IRS that the address on the amended return is different than the original tax return. People move all the time.

And....if you are getting a refund for the amended return, the IRS will only mail you a check. They will not make a direct deposit. Using your current address is important so they can mail the check to the right address.
