Amending 2021 return on TurboTax Desktop Premier

Hello all! Please assist if you can. I successfully filed my 2021 taxes in April this year. Received a W2-C months later so I need to file an amendment. When I go into my TurboTax Premier desktop software to file a return, I do not see my 2021 .tax document anywhere in there. It is also not located anywhere on my computer. I only have a pdf version of 2021 tax return on my computer. How do I go about amending my return?! For clarity, here are the steps I use when I open the app. 1. Open TurboTax desktop. 2. Scroll to the bottom and select "Amend a filed return." Option 3 is either "Start a new return to amend" or "Import from TurboTax online." Neither of these options are applicable to me unless I want to spend 4 hours doing my 2021 return again!

You click the Amend button on the file itself.

Are you on Windows or Mac? Dies your return show up in the box like above? Or go up to File-Open and try to find it. Did you search your whole computer for all files ending in .tax2021? And check the recycle bin and your backups. Check in One Drive, etc. it should be in your Documents then in the Turbo Tax folder. Also if you have multiple Windows user accounts, log into each one and do the search for the *.tax2021 data file from within each one and checking the Recycle Bin in each one.

If you don't have the main .tax file you might have one that starts with a Tilde sign ~ like "~your name.tax2021". That file is if your computer crashes or your real file gets lost or deleted or corrupt so you can restore it.

When you find your file you can also get to Amend another way. You can find Amend under

Federal Taxes or Personal (for Home & Business)

If the .tax2021 tax return data file was moved after you saved it, TurboTax will not find it automatically. You have to click "Find a Tax File" and browse to where the file is.

Check the Recycle Bin. The Search in Windows Explorer does not search the Recycle Bin.

If you have searched your entire hard drive for *.tax2021 and you really do not have the .tax2021 file, your only option is to spend the time to recreate your tax return. When you use the desktop software, the only copy of your tax return is on the computer that you used, and any backup copies that you made. TurboTax does not have a copy of it.

The file is not in TurboTax desktop app and I cannot find it anywhere on my computer

Windows. And the file is not there like in above pic. Cannot find a .tax document anywhere on my desktop and my Recycling Bin is empty

It sounds like you're only looking in a few specific places. Use the Search in Windows to search your entire hard drive. See the following FAQ for detailed instructions. (In the FAQ, click "How to find your tax data file.")

Find your tax data file (.tax file) in Windows

If Windows Search can't find the file, then it is just gone and you will have to recreate the tax return in order to amend it.

I'm opening the pdf file, but I do not find an Amend button anywhere. I'm using the Deluxe version of Turbotax using a Mac. I don't see anything that looks like the graphic below.

You can't open the pdf. You need to open the .tax file inside the program.

I can find the tax file easily on my Mac. But I cannot find an amend button. I can actually open the file in Turbotax 2021, but where do I go from there? This is TurboTax Deluxe.
