Hello, I forgot to include a 1099-K income on my 2017 tax return that was filed on 08/05/2022. I used windows 2017 Desktop Turbo Tax Home and Business to prepare my original 2017 tax return (I file Schedule C). My original 2017 Turbo Tax (.tax) file was lost when my hard drive crashed and is unrecoverable, so I cannot open my original 2017 tax return that has been filed with the IRS.

I only need to add one 1099-K for $12,000 to my amended return. The question I have is:

1) Do I need to re-create my entire original 2017 tax return from scratch before I can properly amend / add my $12,000 1099-K?

2) I tried clicking on "Need to Amend A File Return" then "Don't have a Turbo Tax File to amend?", which ultimately takes me to the section "What do you need to amend on your return?". When I add the missing $12,000 1099-K income, since I don't have my original 2017 Turbo Tax file, everything else is blank, so the 1040-X does not carry my original tax return information over to my amended return.

What is the easiest / best way to properly amend my 2017 return when I don't have the original .tax file?

Yes you first need to recreate the original return. Then when it matches each line that you really filed you have to tell Turbo Tax you will mail it so it thinks it was filed. Then you can amend it.
