I was estimated to receive $5,500 in returns prior to my amended taxes, but I amended them a day after filing, meaning I never received the $5,500 estimate from the government. However, they still debited me for the $5,500 as if I had received the money. Now I am out my own money, and I’m worried they will only send back their current estimate for returns, which means I just would not receive my money back at all

Ok ... let's start at the beginning ... you efiled a return. You should have waited to amend the return until the original return was fully processed and you got the refund in hand. Did the IRS ever release the original refund or did they catch the mistake you made that you tried amending for ? What exactly did you change on the amended return ? Was it the stimulus credit or the CTC ? If so both of those will be auto corrected by the IRS automatically.

Then you amended the return the next day... but did you actually efile it or mail it in ? Has the amended return actually get processed yet ? They usually take 6 months or more to process AFTER the original return has been processed.

You should never amend a return until your original return has been accepted and fully processed. The original return and amended return are processed separately from each other. An amended return can take over 6 months to be processed.

You can check on the status of your Amended return on the IRS website Where's My Amended return. Once that is processed, the IRS (& State) will see you paid the amount on your original return.

https://www.irs.gov/filing/wheres-my-amended-return

If you are still having problems you would need to contact the IRS (and your State if amended a State return), to have them help with your amended return.

IRS Toll-Free Help

You may call 800-829-1040 with any Federal tax questions. Don't select you are asking about a refund, because it will just send you to the automated system for refunds.

So I attempted to file a W-2 and 1099, however, in my haste I did not properly fill out my 1099. This resulted in an estimated tax return that was higher than what it should have been. So once that filing was accepted later that night, I got up the next morning and filed an amendment, because I did not report the money I made while being a 1099 worker. The result of that was them taking their estimated return out of my account. However, because it was only a day after, I never actually received the money they debited from my account. That’s the reason I amended, and I wasn’t aware of how long the amendment process would take. I e-filed it and now the amended taxes has been accepted. To my knowledge they never released the tax refund to me

Ok ... did you check the IRS site to see if the original refund was ever issued ... www.IRS.gov/refunds

So look at the 1040X you filed ... did you not change the amount on line 18 of the refund you had already recieved to zero ? This is why you should not file the amended return too quickly. You now have a mess on your hands ... so I highly recommend you seek a local tax pro who can assist you in getting this corrected. Or you can try contacting the tax payer advocate office ... http://www.irs.gov/Advocate/Local-Taxpayer-Advocate
