I read something that said if I go to my returns and documents and select that I am Adding a State return, I can get in, but I don't have an Add State Return option.

To access your current or prior year tax returns sign onto the TurboTax website with the User ID you used to create the account - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/

Scroll down to the section Your tax returns & documents. Click on the Year and Click on Download/print return (PDF)

A 2021 tax return can only be printed and mailed, it cannot be e-filed.

Print, sign, date and mail the tax return to the IRS. Include with the mailed return any forms W-2 and 1099 which have taxes withheld. Go to this IRS website for mailing addresses - https://www.irs.gov/filing/where-to-file-paper-tax-returns-with-or-without-a-payment

There are no penalties for filing a tax return after the due date if filing for a tax refund or there are no taxes owed.

Well....TTX shut everything down on the night of 31 October to start archiving all the 2021 tax files, and transition the software to 2022. So your file may be locked up right now.

Sometime in the next 1-4 weeks, after all the files have been archived, you should be able to get to a PDF download for your 2021 tax files, in the "Your tax returns & documents" section, when a 2021 tab selection should appear (right now, the tabs only go up to 2020....though that may vary depending on the progress of the archiving process...mine only show up to 2020 right now)

And...if you have to make any changes to it before you file it, you will have to do that by downloading the CD/download software, since it will not be possible now to use the online program to make any changes.

Your return can only be filed by mail now; it cannot be e-filed.

If you need to add information or make changes before you print the copy you want to mail in, you will have to wait until the account is unlocked, then:

If you are getting a refund, there is no penalty for filing late. If you owe tax due, then file and pay the amount due as shown on the Form 1040, but expect a bill later from the IRS for the penalty and interest you will owe. Only the IRS will calculate this—TurboTax will not calculate it.

When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s. Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.

Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses. Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.

I don't want to print it, I want to modify it. I have not filed yet.

Sadly, you will have to wait until the return is unlocked and then you must use the CD/download on a full PC or Mac in order to make changes to the return. You will not be able to make any more changes using the online software. You cannot e-file. The return can only be filed by mail now.
