topic Mistake on Schedule D, amended return necessary? in After you file

So first time doing short-term stock trading this past year. Didn't really make much (<$50), but noticed a mistake after I submitted my federal return. Instead of having box A checked on Schedule D ("My brokerage submits trade records to the IRS"), in my ignorance I checked box C ("Brokerage DOES NOT submit trade records to IRS"). I found out after I looked more carefully at my 1099-B that i should have checked box A. I still reported my summary total proceeds, but not the line-by-line stock trades. Do I need to file Form 8949 or amend my return since my broker does submit the trades and I filled out the form properly given that information?

I would not file an amended return. It won't change the amount of tax you owe. Also, as you said, the information has already been sent to the IRS by your Broker. Worse case scenario is you get a letter from the IRS and have to mail a copy of your 1099-B. But the IRS is so backlogged right now, they aren't going to ask you for a 1099-B to support information they already have.
