First, I suggest you request a transcript of your 2020 tax return from the IRS. You can determine if they have received your return and the current status.

You can also request a transcript by mail by calling our automated phone transcript service at 800-908-9946. Visit our Get Transcript frequently asked questions ...

‎Get Transcript FAQs · ‎Current year transcript... · ‎Transcript types

Second, I would call the IRS to inquire about the status of the return. If they confirm that they have no record of a return filed them let them sugges you submit again and to who. Contact an IRS customer service representative to correct any agency errors by calling 800-829-1040. Customer service representatives are available Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. local time, unless otherwise noted (see telephone assistance for more information).

Also, check "Where Is My Refund" to have all of that information when talking to the IRS.

Just refiling without confirmation of the status of the 2020 return can just add confusion to the process.

Hi,
I filed my 2020 taxes in January 2021 ( early in the season) for some reason I did not receive my federal refund yet. Actually, I received my 2021 refund before it.

I spoke with the IRS Tax advocate and they advised me to refile it again. I am a bit confused about that. What are your recommendations?

Regards
Mahmood
