we just filed we received 2 stimulus checks this year turbo tax asked if we got three we answered n o and got 2800 extra on our fed return is this right

When you prepared your 2021 tax return you were being asked if you received the 3rd EIP payment last year---the one for $1400 per person. The IRS sent out letter 6475 to you about that if you got that payment. If you are not sure whether you received the 3rd EIP payment you should check your own bank records for deposits of $1400 per person from mid-March 2021 onward. And check the IRS online account for each of you to see if the IRS says they sent it to you.

If the IRS did not send you the $1400 per person then it was correct for you to get it as a recovery rebate credit on your 2021 tax return.

You only report the 3rd Stimulus payment on your 2021 return. It was 1,400 per person. How much did you get? Double check your bank account. And the IRS should send you each a letter 6475 for half. If you haven't got both letters yet you should check both your IRS accounts to see what they Standard Deduction t you.

You need to enter the full amount into your tax return. Then if you didn't get the full amount or qualify for more you will get credit for the missing amount on 1040 line 30. How much is on line 30?
