The IRS will send you a letter explaining why they reduced the refund. Did you claim a stimulus payment on return that you later found out you received it already?

No I didn’t receive any stimulus money for 2021. I guess I’ll wait and see if I get a letter.

Most times the IRS adjust returns based on information that they have that does not match your return. Sometimes it can be a simple error. However, you should receive a notice of adjustment that explains the nature of the adjustment. If, when you receive the explanation of adjustments from the IRS, you can challenge the adjustment if you have evidence to support your the return as originally filed.. The IRS seems to prefer to make adjustments and send out the refund rather than hold up all of the refund while making adjustments and addressing challenges.
