2020 AGI

I am having the same problem with my 2021 tax return as many had with the 2020 tax return.

When it asks for last year's AGI, it automatically fills in with a number (actually not what was on my return). It puts that number under my name and then on the next page, it puts that number under my husband's name. I've tried entering the amount from the return that I sent to the IRS last year, I've tried leaving the number as is and I've tried entering the MAGI and they were all rejected. What I'm wondering if they want me to break out the number between my income and my husband's. Maybe this is happening because we didn't e-file last year and we are this year? I've never had to change the number before and it's gone through without a problem. I tried changing the dollar amount to zero as suggested in the posts last year and it still rejects. Any idea what to try next?

You mention that you filed by mail for 2020, did you file late in the season, and has the return been accepted by the IRS?

Please see the below TurboTax help article for a list of potential reasons your return is being rejected due to the AGI. What if I entered the correct AGI and I'm still getting an e-file reject?

Your 2020 return must have been Accepted by the IRS for your prior year AGI to be on record. If you mailed your 2020 return, or it was late, you need to make sure it was Accepted by contacting the IRS directly

You can print and mail your 2021 return or select I didn’t file last year, if your 2020 return was rejected and never resubmitted or accepted by the IRS.

If you filed by mail, your return may have been delayed.

IRS says:

In this situation, enter AGI = 0 to e-File 2021".
