If you did not answer the questions correctly for the recovery rebate credit and ended up with the stimulus on line 30, it will put your return under review. The IRS knows you got the stimulus so they will reduce your refund. Expect that to delay your refund.

If the stimulus payment is not taxable, how would it decrease my refund?

@mmdean15 It has nothing to do with it being taxable. If you claimed it again you cannot get it twice. If you already got the stimulus, but answered incorrectly when you prepared your tax return---and put the stimulus payment on line 30 again --- the IRS will take it away.

Look at your Form 1040----is there an amount on line 30?

@mmdean15 You said earlier in this thread that you had already received the stimulus for $1400. When you did not say that on your 2021 tax return you caused it to be added to your refund again. You cannot get the $1400 again. So the IRS is going to remove that $1400 from your 2021 refund---that is going to delay the time it takes to get your refund---and reduce your refund by that $1400 that you do not get again.
