The IRS will not debit your account. A balance owed on an amended return cannot be paid by direct debit. They will send you a bill, and you can set up a payment plan.

I am submitting an amended return. I received my first return via direct deposit but now I owe money. Are they going to automatically debit the money from the account they deposited or I can set up a payment plan instead. I don’t want them to debit me. Is there a way to ensure they won’t or will they send me a bill after they process my 1040x

The form 1040x will be processed and your account will be adjusted accordingly. The IRS will not take any money from your bank account. You will need to setup payment arrangements,

They won’t automatically debit me the amount due though? I had direct deposit set up for my refund but I don’t want them to automatically debit me for the now owed part of it. Will they just send me a bill for the amount owed or do they use my info from the refund to debit the amount.

Thank you so much. I have been so worried by this by not having the money to pay it this moment and didn’t want them to deplete and make my account negative. I was just worried because the form has my bank account and didn’t want them to go in and just take the money. Thank you so much again!

Form 1040-X does not have your bank account information. Only Form 1040 has it, but they won't use that for the amended return.

Glad I could help.

The 1040X Amended return does not have your bank info on it. Only the 1040. You do not send the 1040 with the amended 1040X.
