2020 tax return statue

Filed through Turbo tax 1040 for year 2020.

got email confirmation on May 12th that return was accepted.

Also paid part of payment directly on IRS site

Now when I go to IRS site it says the return was not processed yet and I can not even make additional payments .

Why is it not processed till now if the return was made electronically and confirmed? should it be just few days

If you had taxes owed on the 2020 federal tax return then you cannot use the IRS website for federal tax refunds - https://www.irs.gov/refunds

Go to this IRS website for your tax account - https://www.irs.gov/payments/view-your-tax-account

You can make federal tax payments at any time on the IRS payment website for Direct Pay or pay with a credit/debit card - https://www.irs.gov/payments

Since the IRS is short on personnel the returns with balance dues on them have been put to the back of the line and can take months to process. Until they are processed you may not be able to make a payment online on the IRS website ... if that is the issue then you can either wait for the bill or mail in a payment with a 1040-V.
