Hello,

I filed my taxes In February, they were accepted and I already received my refund from the Irs.

I realized that I forgot to add one my my mortgage statements to my tax return. I need to amend my return to add in my mortgage statement, which I know how to do.

The problem is, turbotax has automatically adjusted the amount of my initial refund because of the new unemployment tax credit. My refund amount has increased by $1,224.00 by turbotax before I started the amending process. From my understanding, the IRS will automatically adjust my return and send the amount to me starting in May.

Im not sure how to proceed with amending my refund.

if I add amend my return and add my missing mortgage statement, my refund increases by another 1,000 dollars.

It now shows, the increase of 1,224 for my unemployment tax credit plus the 1000 from me adding my missing mortgage statement . That will be an amended refund of over 2000.00

Being that the IRS has stated that the unemployment tax credit will be sent automatically, this would be double dipping. How do I fix this situation?

Yes, this can get complicated. It would be best to wait to file an amended return after the IRS has corrected your original return and you have received your refund. It's possible the IRS may catch the missing mortgage statement and correct that as well.

At that time file your amended return.
