Amending my Return

I choose that I was not a dependent of anyone else and claimed myself, filed return and have received refund. Now my mom says I did it wrong and I need to do an amended return because I should have marked that I am a dependent because she claims me on her return. I need to do an amended return and only need to change the dependency choice. How can I get to the worksheet to make the change and file an amended return?

You will have to change the way you answered the question in My Info when it asked you if you could be claimed as someone else's dependent. However, since you already e-filed and made this mistake, your mother cannot e-file this year. She will have to print, sign and mail her own return in order to claim you as a dependent. Even if you amend, your amended return will not catch up in the system this year in order for her to e-file. She can only file by mail now. Make sure she knows that.

Thank you xmasbaby0, I'm in the amend my return section of Turbo Tax and in personal info there is nowhere for me to change the way I originally answered the dependency question. It will let me edit my name, ss#, dob, job, marital status, state, whether I have any dependents, filing status and address. But not if I'm a dependent of anyone.

Click your name and go back through the screens. You will be asked if you can be claimed as someone else's dependent. Watch carefully for the question. It is about five or six screens into the My Info section.
