Even though other advice on this board suggests the refund meter doesn't matter, the numbers in Column C, rows 20 and 22 are not what I expect. When I checked the original, filed return in TT 2018, the numbers are exactly as they were when I filed them. How can I correct so that I can use the amended return feature?

Hi @SweetieJean , thank you for your response.

Since filing my 2018 return, I've found that the box 1 amount on one of my W2's was legitimately excludable. I've been instructed to exclude it by entering a negative (-) value for the box 1 income and tagging the reason. This would result in an additional refund of about $400.

However, when I try to go in to amend my return, the "Amend a Filed Return" on the welcome screen, the amended return doesn't zero out the refund values as in other years of Turbo Tax, nor does it reset it to values in the original return, but gives completely different and unexpected values. (I've checked to ensure that the original return still looks correct and confirmed that it does.)

When I make the fix, instead of showing an expected $400 amount in box 22 of the 1040X, it's showing a $500 payment due in box 20 instead.

In short, it seems to be processing my 2018 return differently than it did when I originally filed it, but only after I try to amend it.

I tried following the steps in the link, but I don't understand step 4. I don't understand what is meant by "Inside your program, search for amend and then click the Jump to link."

I appreciate all your help.

You have to have your 2018 tax return open. Then search for amend and then click the Jump to link.
