Amend taxes

I was charged $115 to amend my taxes but then at the very end it says I am unable to e-file and have to do it by mail! So why was I charged $115 dollars before I new this could be done?! The only thing I need to change is filing head of household instead of single?? Please help me with this problem

There are some situations in the IRS tax code that are unable to be e-filed and this is one of them. Filing an amended return by mail is still getting it filed and corrected. Unfortunately, as you know, it will take longer to process it.

The message should also tell you why it cannot be e-filed currently. You need to find out why because if you are just waiting on a form to be changed or updated, then it would be beneficial to wait to file the amended return when you can e-file it.

If you choose to paper file the 1040X, it can take 8-12 weeks or longer to process an amended paper return.

So I waited until March 26th because that’s when it told me I could E-file, then I was told I had to pay $115 to file only to find out this can’t be done? So you basically screwed me out of $115 is what your telling me. If I was told I had to mail it in before you took my money I would of never of had to pay! I am really unsatisfied

what did you pay $115 for?

Generally there is no fee to amend your tax return if you used TurboTax originally.

I don't believe changing status will prevent e-File.

I originally got the free version. Then I went on the amend my taxes because the only thing I forgot to change was from single to head of household. I’ve never been married and have always filed head of household, it was my mistake. As I went on to do the e-file to amend it took me through the steps, as I was changing it, it told me I no longer qualified for the simple version I had to pay, ok fine. So I paid the $115. Then as I was just about to finish it says I can’t E-file what I’m needing to change I need to mail it in.

Can you help me figure out what I am doing wrong so I can try to E-file this? It’s super simple I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong. I can’t screen shot what it is telling me if that helps

The fee is actually not for e-filing. It is for our program to assist in creating your return. Sometimes, unfortunately, you are not able to e-file. Please see the Help Article here for more details.
