No, if the end result of tax due/refund due to you is netting to zero, aside from dependency information (if that were different than original), you do not need to file an amended return.

For my 2019 taxes, I filed incorrectly and received a refund. I did an amended 2019 return and do not owe any back tax but I received a refund when I should not have. How do I return the refund I received? Thank you.

If you used TurboTax to file the amended return, the program will factor in the original refund.

It is possible that the correction did not affect your refund.

Look at your 1040X line 20 and 22 to see if you owe or get a refund.

1040X line 18 should show the original refund amount.

Thank you. Yes, my 1040x line 18 had my refund but line 20 was zero. That is great news! Thank you. Now if I don't owe anything and I don't need to send any money back do I still need to file the amended return?? Seems like a waste of time and energy. Thanks again for the help.
