Did you already get the first or second stimulus checks? You had to enter what you already got or Turbo Tax gave it to you again.

I’ve seen posts where the IRS reduced the refund like if you claimed the first or second 1200 but then got it after you filed.

Was there 1200 on line 30 for the Recovery rebate credit? You may have entered the wrong amount that you got for the Stimulus payments.

OK... I looked at line #30 and I've entered $1200... but we file jointly so maybe I was supposed to enter $2400 on the 2020 taxes? I believe the stimulus check came in April and I filed in the 2019 taxes in February on Turbo Tax.

If this was wrong... what is my recourse? Can Turbo Tax Regular correct this?

Did you actually get the 2,400 for the first round and 1,200 for the second round Stimulus checks? Then you were suppose to enter what you already got in the 2 boxes. The second 1,200 might have come in January or February this year after you filed 2020. There's nothing you can do or need to do unless you didn't get either of the stimulus checks or they were the wrong amount.

We received all our CARES stimulus money prompt and on time. So for the two of us that's $2'400 and later $1,200. So in box #30 I've been reading I should have left this blank (found an answer on Google) instead of the $1200 I entered in that box?

Thinking of filing an amended tax for 2020 when the form becomes available.

Why didn't Turbo Tax catch my screw-up? I must have miss-understood something.

This is a copy/paste from the US Gov IRS web site: "If we issued you the full amount of each Economic Impact Payment, you won’t need to claim the Recovery Rebate Credit or include any information related to it when you file your 2020 tax return because we already issued your Recovery Rebate Credit as Economic Impact Payments."

That is Box #30 apparently.

So.... Did the IRS see the $1200 I entered in Box 30 and recalculate my refund (by subtracting $1200) without telling me anything?

Here's some answers I've found on the IRS sight to this question:

Q G3. I filed my 2020 return electronically, but made a mistake calculating my 2020 Recovery Rebate Credit. Will my return be rejected? (added March 1, 2020)

A3. No, the IRS will not reject your tax return if you made an error in calculating your 2020 Recovery Rebate Credit.

If you made a mistake on the line 30 amount, the IRS will calculate the correct amount of the Recovery Rebate Credit, make the correction to your tax return and continue processing your return. If a correction is needed, there may be a slight delay in processing your return and the IRS will send you a notice explaining any change made.
