If the Recovery Rebate Credit is not on Line 30 of your 1040, then you will have to file an amended return. Per the IRS, receiving Notice 1444-A is not a guarantee of eligibility for an Economic Impact Payment.

Your Recovery Rebate Credit amount will be phased out if your adjusted gross income for 2020 exceeds $150,000 if you are married filing a joint return or filing as a qualifying widow or widower, $112,500 if you are using the head of household filing status, or $75,000 if you are using any other filing status.

If you qualify based on your 2020 adjusted gross income and your e-file is still pending, you won't be able to make changes until the IRS accepts your return. Once your return is accepted, please follow the directions on the How do I amend my 2020 return?

After you initiate the amendment of your return, please go to the recovery rebate form and enter the correct amount of stimulus payments you received and you will receive the Recovery Rebate Credit, if you qualify.

To get to the correct screen, please follow the steps below:

With your return open, search for stimulus with the magnifying glass tool on the top of the page.
Select the Jump to Stimulus in the search results to directly go to correct TurboTax page.
Follow the on screen instructions and reenter the correct information.

Don't file an amended return yet.

The IRS says that the IRS will correct your refund automatically, although it may delay payment. See questions G2 and G3 here.

Wait until your refund is paid. If the IRS automatically reduces your refund by the amount of the rebate, then you don't need to file an amended return. Only file an amended return if the IRS does not automatically correct your refund.

Let me clarify.

If you did not receive a stimulus payment, and did not claim a rebate, the IRS will not automatically add the rebate and you must file an amended return if you are eligible for a rebate.

However, if you received a payment (round 1 or 2 or both) and did not report it on your tax return, and so claimed an extra rebate, you don't have to amend. The IRS will fix your return for you and issue the correct refund.

Since the customer states they received a "144_B", this appears to be the second category.

I received a letter dated 3/1 saying my EIP2 payment would be a direct deposit. However I have yet to receive it and wanted to ask if I should wait or do I need to file something? Thank you

If the IRS thinks they paid you an EIP2, then if you also claim the recovery rebate on your tax return, the IRS will adjust the amount to reflect what they already paid. If you wait longer to file, the IRS will still think they paid the EIP2 and disallow any rebate you claim. If you never actually receive EIP2, you will have to do a trace on it. I suppose you should file now, and indicate in Turbotax that you received the amounts of stimulus payments (EIP1 and EIP2) that the IRS thinks they issued (your letter 1444 or 1444-B) so your tax return is processed and you get the rest of any refund you are due. Then you will have to separately trace the missing EIP2 and try to get the IRS to re-issue it if it was lost or misdirected.

I open Turbo Tax and Select Amend Return, but I can't find any magnifying glass tool to get to the Stimulus page. I have the TurboTax Premier CD version for 2020.

I found the Search icon. You need to hit the double arrow in the Upper Right corner of the page.
