I accidentally contributed an excess ~$2,400 to my HSA in 2019.

I completed the carryover form with my bank, and the excess was carried over from 2019 to 2020 in January of 2020. My total 2020 contribution, including the carryover, was under the limit.

I just noticed that the excess was added to my 2019 taxable income and was taxed. How to i fix that? Amend 2019 somehow? What form, specifically? I went through the amend online, and i can't seem to fix it to remove it from my taxable income.

Unfortunately, I already submitted my 2020 taxes, so i may have to amend those if I should be fixing it in 2020.

Thanks!

"I just noticed that the excess was added to my 2019 taxable income and was taxed. How to i fix that? Amend 2019 somehow? "

There is nothing to fix.

I presume that the HSA contributions were in box 12 with a code of W on you W-2, right?

If so, then the code W amount was removed from Wages in boxes 1, 3, and 5 on your W-2 before your your W-2 was printed.

But excess contributions are not tax-deductible. Since the W-2 already made them deductible, they have to be added back to income, and they are, to line 8 (Other Income) of Schedule 1 (1040). So this is correct.

To repeat, there is nothing to fix or amend.
