Simple Joint return with $34,064 income and no taxes paid results in $31,000 refund I cannot find how.

Sounds like a user error with decimals or extra zeros. Have you checked for that? The decimal and the comma are next to each other on the keyboard so it is easy to strike the wrong key. Check your income entries again.

WAGES

RETIREMENT (IRA PAYMENTS)

SOCIAL SECURITY

NO TAXES paid

Calculation leaves only retirement taxable (credit given for low income)

wages disappeared and social security turned into tax payments

taxes paid plus credit = refund

How does Social Security turn into payments and what happened to the wages?

I Am glad I STOPPED BEFORE FILING. I THOUGHT YOU WOULD CHECK THE RETURN.

Social security may have income and taxes paid. Perhaps the amount for taxes withheld was not typed correctly?

Wages should be listed on the tax form, line 1. Social security would be line 6a for the full amount and 6b for the taxable amount.
