I recently received letter 12C from the IRS and it doesn't specifically ask for form 8962 as seems to be the most common scenario. IRS seems to be asking for:

Copy of page 1,2 of the tax return
Amounts and dates of all estimated tax payments
Supporting docs verifying income and withholding
Copy of the letter

I suspect it might be related to an estimated advance payment I made (1040ES). I was wondering what is the best way to send the receipt for this payment? I just have a confirmation number from IRS regarding the payment.

what year since the IRS has not started processing 2020 returns? the year should be on the letter.

Thanks for the quick reply. It is for tax year 2019. I read through the linked article and in my letter there is no specific ask for a missing document. As mentioned in my original post, IRS is asking for some "general" documents.

My guess is that the advance tax payment is the only "special" thing and hence I was curious how can I provide proof for that payment since I only received a confirmation number from IRS.

You can provide proof of your advance tax payment (estimated tax) by getting a copy of the transaction from your financial institution where the payment was paid from. It will show that it was paid to the IRS.

With the transaction document and the match to that same number on the tax return should be enough proof of payment.
