topic Should I amend without notice? in After you file

I just received a state notice of individual income tax adjustment. My refund was smaller to correct my mistake of entering the wrong amount in estimating taxes paid. I feel like I should be proactive and amend the fed return to correct my mistake (wrong figure in estimating tax paid - ugh, yes I did it twice) because now I owe them. Am I right to amend without a notice from the IRS? Do I need to amend the state even thou they have resolved the problem for me?

Ok you should amend the federal return but since the state has already corrected the error you do not need to mail in that amendment however you should make the corrections in the program so the tax file is correct.
