What year did you amend? And when? You could not efile an Amended 2019 return until after August. Or did you mail it?

Go by the actual 1040X. Line 18 should be your original refund amount and line 22 should be your additional refund. If you paid on your original return it will be on line 16. If there is an amount owed with the amendment, it will be on line 20.

Are you still waiting for the refund?

In normal times it takes up to 16 weeks or more to process an Amended 1040X return. But these are not normal times.

Sorry the IRS has limited staff due to Covid-19. They just started opening the mail in June that's been stacking up. Back in March the IRS closed their processing centers and stopped processing mailed tax returns. An IRS spokesperson said that they have about 11 million pieces of unopened mail. The IRS says....."We’re experiencing delays in processing paper tax returns due to limited staffing. If you already filed a paper return, we will process it in the order we received it." So it may take longer if you mailed in June or later. So you have to keep waiting.

Save a PDF of the return and look at the form 1040X ... and when did you mail in the return ? Amended returns are taking 6 months or more to process this year so you have to be patient.

Looking up the return here doesn't require the refund amount ... AND until the return has been entered into the system you will not get a progress report. https://www.irs.gov/filing/wheres-my-amended-return

You want an amended from from 1999 ? No one, not even the IRS has records that old.

If you meant 2019 then if you used the ONLINE program save a fresh PDF now. If you used the downloaded version then open that program to see the return.

1999? 21 years ago?? Nobody, including the IRS keeps records of returns older than 7 years. Only you would have a copy of it if you kept and stored a copy.

You have to sign onto your online account using the exact same User ID you used to create the online account.

Close all TurboTax windows on your web browser (including this one). Copy and paste the account recovery website link onto a new web browser window and run the tool.

Use this TurboTax account recovery website to get a list of all the User ID's for an email address. Run the tool against any email addresses you may have used - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/account-recovery

If none of the user ID's received will access your account, then use the option shown in blue on the account recovery website, "Try something else"

If you used the desktop CD/Download editions installed on your computer, the only copy of your tax data file and any PDF's will be on the computer where the return was created. TurboTax does not store online any returns completed using the desktop editions.

To access your current or prior year tax returns sign onto the TurboTax website with the User ID you used to create the account - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/

Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and on the section Your tax returns & documents click on Show. Click on the Year and Click on Download/print return (PDF) or Download .tax file

@trueluck63 You should log into your account and verify that your amended return was successfully filed and view the amount and date. In addition, verify a state return was emailed, if needed. Otherwise, you may need to print and mail, with tracking for your security.

The amended return should contain your original refund or amount due and all finances should have been settled before filing. The laws also changed around the time of your filing so there could be additional issues. It will be a long time before they process amended returns. They will start working on filed returns with unemployment this summer and then the amended returns.

Assuming you used the TurboTax online editions to complete and e-file your federal tax return -

The ELECTRONIC POSTMARK - CERTIFICATION OF ELECTRONIC FILING will be included with the tax return when you use Print Center and the option for all worksheets. The Postmark report will have the date/time the tax return was transmitted and the date it was accepted by the IRS, if accepted.

To access your current or prior year online tax returns sign onto the TurboTax website with the User ID you used to create the account - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/

When you sign onto your online account and land on the Tax Home web page, scroll down and click on Add a state.

This will take you back to the 2020 online tax return.

Click on Tax Tools on the left side of the online program screen. Then click on Print Center. Then click on Print, save or preview this year's return. Choose the option Include government and TurboTax worksheets
