Can you tell me how to find my NY State return that I started but cant seem to figure out how to retrieve it?

When I go back into my state return it says there are 2 errors that need correcting. Both are in relation to amending my return. I'm just trying to finish my original NYS tax return, not amend one. I also have a message that I cannot e-file my return because I first have to submit one.

As long as you have not actually filed (mailed or efiled)...

As long as you have not actually filed (mailed or efiled), you can open the unfiled return back up to continue working on it.

Log in and go to your 2018 Tax Timeline.
If TurboTax thinks you are finished, there will be no orange "Take me to my return" button.
So in that case, scroll down to "Some things you can do."
Choose "Add a State." (you don't really add one; that's just to get the return to open up.)
Once the return is open, you can continue working on it.

NOTE: Do NOT use this method to open a return to make changes/edits to an already-filed return (one that has actually been mailed or efiled.) If you later need to make changes to an already-filed return, you have to go through the formal amending process, and your return must start off exactly as originally filed.

I need to see my NYS tax return that was filed and accepted in May and then need to print it. Im only abale to access my federal return

Your NY state return "should" be in the same PDF as your Federal return that you download at the Tax Home in the section "Your Tax Returns & Documents." If for some reason it's not in that PDF, then here's how to open your return back up to get larger PDFs (including worksheets, if desired) at the Print Center:

NOTE: When you open your return back up, do not make any changes in it since it's already been filed.

Log in and go to "Your Tax Returns & Documents." Click that line or on the word SHOW to expand that section.
Choose 2018 tax year.
Click on "Add a State." (you don't really add one. That's just to open your return back up.)
After the return is open, click in the left menu column on TAX TOOLS, then PRINT CENTER.
Then choose "Print, save, view this year's return."
The next screen should offer 3 options: "Just my tax returns", or "include government worksheets (optional)", or "include government and TurboTax worksheets (optional.)"
See if one of those PDFs has what you need.

NOTE: Remember all PDF tax documents and tax data files are very sensitive files, since they contain your personal ID info, financial data, and possibly bank account numbers, etc. Be sure to store them safely and securely to guard against computer theft, hacking, etc.

Yes, you can make changes to your tax return before you actually forward it to the IRS for approval.

To change your info in TurboTax Online before filing, follow the steps below:

1. Sign into your Online account.

2. Click the button that says "Take me to my return".

3. On the left navigation panel select "My Info" or any other section that you wish to revise. To edit the information click on the pencil icon next to the appropriate section.

4. Begin editing each section that you need to until the return is ready to be filed.
