IRS's new e-file tool for an amended tax return on turbo tax?

The IRS just announced that people can e-file their 2019 amended 1040x return through commercial tax filing software. (https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/now-available-irs-form-1040-x-electronic-filing) But turbo tax still says we can only file with paper. Will it be possible to e-file through turbo-tax or do we have to go through another way?

E-filing a 2019 amended tax return is not yet available using TurboTax. Only paper filing of the 2019 amended return is currently available.

Ok! But, do we know if it will be available? Is Turbo Tax working on making it available soon?

We do not know yet when you will be able to e-file a 1040X using TurboTax. When it is available it will only be for 2019 returns, not earlier years. Just check in again every so often to see when TT announces e-filing 1040X is ready.

Yes, TurboTax is working on making e-filing for the 2019 amended return available. There has not yet been a posted date for when it will be available.

Can I e-file my 1040X to amend my return?

Note: By the end of this week, you'll be able to e-file your amended tax return in TurboTax. We'll update this page with instructions to do such soon.

After you finish amending in TurboTax, we'll guide you through printing and mailing your 1040X along with any required attachments.

Three weeks after mailing your amendment, you can start tracking it at Where's My Amended Return? on IRS.gov.
