Payment withdrawn is wrong

The IRS processed the payment for my 2019 tax return but the amount taken out of my account is $240 more than what TurboTax shows that I owe for that year. I haven't received any mail from the IRS to explain why the payment taken is much higher then what I agreed to have withdrawn from my account. any idea why or how I can find out?

The IRS must have made an adjustment to your return. You will get an explanatory letter someday, but don't hold your breath; they are so backed up with correspondence due to their COVID-19 shutdown earlier this year.

You can try calling them in a few days - not today for obvious reasons. An IRS rep may be able to explain exactly what happened on their end.

You will have to check with the IRS directly or wait for correspondence about the change. You can reach them at 1-800-829-1040.
